Issue #3 — Lock Down Your Nonprofit Name (The Right Way)
Step 1 to launching your nonprofit holding company starts here.
The biggest mistake?
Trying to file your nonprofit before confirming your name is available — and IRS-appropriate.
This week, we’re walking you through how to:
✔️ Pick a strategic, IRS-friendly name
✔️ Check availability in Delaware
✔️ Secure the matching .ORG domain
✔️ Avoid branding traps that scream “for-profit”
And yes — we recorded the whole thing.

👉 Delaware Name Search
📌 We chose Delaware because it’s nonprofit-friendly, protects your privacy, and has fast processing times (ours was approved same-day).
✅ What makes a good nonprofit name?
Broad, service-oriented language (think: “Institute,” “Initiative,” “Center,” “Project”)
Avoids for-profit triggers (like “Agency,” “Consulting,” or “Holdings”)
Leaves room to expand your programming
Easy to match with a .ORG domain
💡 Example: Instead of “Small Biz Consulting Co,” try “Center for Entrepreneur Education” — same mission, cleaner framing.
🌐 Grab the .ORG domain too (or wait for the walk-through next week)
Even if you never build a website, buying your .ORG domain protects your brand and ensures no one else uses your nonprofit’s name.
We recommend Namecheap because it’s fast, affordable, and easy to use (our walk-through is coming in next week’s issue).
🧠 Pro Tip:
If your name is available in Delaware and the .ORG domain is open, secure both immediately.
They’re not connected — someone else could grab one while you’re filing for the other.
What’s Next:
In Issue #4, we’ll walk through how to register your .ORG domain using Namecheap — step by step, with video and tips to stay private and compliant.
